Carson City Holiday with a Hero seeks donations to help 200 elementary school students have a brighter holiday season. Checks need to be made payable to “Holiday with a Hero” and donations can be mailed to: PO Box 2790, Carson City, 89702; they can be taken to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 911 E. Fighters Against Child Abuse seeks cash donations, coats, and toys for local families and children in emergency abuse shelters, and Court Appointed Special Advocates. Donations can be dropped off at Bellissimo Gifts in the Carson Mall, or at Fighters Against Child Abuse’s official mentoring center at West Coast World Martial Arts, 1617 Buckeye Road in Minden. Save Mart Supermarkets seek cash donations to benefit food banks. Donations of $5, $10, $15 or $20 can be made through Jan. 3 at checkout counters at Save Mart.

Raley’s is holding its 27th annual holiday bag campaign to contribute food to local food banks. Donations can be made through Dec. 31 at checkout counters in all Raley’s or at www.foodforfamilies.org.

The Carson City Library is hosting a food drive to benefit the Ron Wood Family Resource Center through Nov. 27. Items must be non-perishable and not be expired. Glass containers are not permitted. Call 775-884-2269 or email info@carson-family.org.

Mike’s Pharmacy, 1007 N. Curry St., will hold its 15th annual Turkey Roundup from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 22. Frozen turkeys and other Thanksgiving foods are sought for the Carson City Salvation Army to distribute to local food banks. Donations can be made at Mike’s Pharmacy on the day of the drive, or by calling 775-841-1400.

Donations of socks and gloves can be left on the tree set up outside the front door of Evergreen Gene’s, at 1811 N. Carson St., through Dec. 20. Call 775-882-1807.

FISH seeks donations and volunteers to prepare Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets. The baskets provide meals for three days for each holiday. Call 775-882-3474 and ask for Tony. To sign up to receive a basket, bring an NV Energy bill to the FISH administrative office, 138 E. Long St., during business hours.

The “Be a Santa to a Veteran” project seeks Walmart gift cards in the amount of $10 enclosed in unsealed Christmas cards with messages to veterans in need. Cards can be dropped off at Charley’s Grilled Subs at the Carson Mall through Dec. 9.

Project Santa Claus seeks volunteers to sort and wrap presents from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 15-19 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Pavilion Building. To sponsor a child for Christmas, choose a tag — which includes child’s name, age, hobbies, clothes size, and wish list — from any angel tree in Douglas County and return wrapped gifts to the angel tree location by Dec. 16. Gifts purchased without an angel tree tag can be dropped off at the fairground on Dec. 15. Cash donations can be sent to: Project Santa Claus, PO Box 3031, Gardnerville, Nevada 89410.
