The return of residential homebuilding and the acquisition of TrashPros of Fallon by Waste Management has jump-started trash hauling services for Olcese Waste Services.
Owner Tillio Olcese, who also runs the demolition specialty firm Olcese Construction, says the trash-hauling side of his business took off in December as residential homebuilders jumped back into the game. He’s got 20-, 30- and 40-yard bins placed at subdivisions in Reno and Sparks, and business has grown as homebuilders expanded into new neighborhoods. He’s also picked up business from small firms in the wake of the October acquisition of TrashPros.
Prior to December, Olcese says trash-hauling services accounted for less than 10 percent of total revenue; today more than a third of his revenue comes from waste services.
“We were just creeping along until December came,” Olcese says.
Olcese Waste Services employs two full-time drivers who collect large bins from residential subdivisions and smaller 3-, 4- and 6-yard bins from businesses in the Truckee Meadows, Fernley and the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. Drivers haul bins to the Lockwood Regional Landfill, Ormsby Sanitation Landfill in Carson City or an independent recycling center on Telegraph Avenues.
Olcese says he’s invested heavily in new trash bins and trucks since the start of the year and expects to hire another one to two drivers in the next six months.
