The Missing In America Project brought the remains of 15 veterans who had been previously unidentified and unclaimed to the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley for burial with full honors Tuesday.
The remains were found at a funeral home in Elko. Once they were identified, the organization worked with the nearest Veterans Memorial Cemetery for burial arrangements.
The Missing In America Project is a nonprofit that locates, identifies and inters the unclaimed cremated remains of veterans.
Tuesday’s ceremony was the first of six scheduled this month. A list of ceremonies and information about the group can be found at www.miap.us.
