The Northern Nevada Fire Wives will hold its fundraising barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Fire Department at 777 S. Stewart St., to raise funds to support firefighters and their families when tragedy strikes.
The nonprofit Northern Nevada Fire Wives was organized this year through the efforts of Renee Pedrini and other local firefighter wives after a firefighter friend of her husband’s was seriously injured, and four other firefighters died during a motel fire in Houston. The event, hosted in conjunction with the Carson City Fire Department and Warren Engine Company No. 1, will feature a food plate for $5 and raffle tickets for $1. Offerings will include tours of the Warren Engine Co. No. 1 museum, activities at a fire-prevention education trailer and visits by Sparky the Fire Dog and Smokey Bear.
Northern Nevada Fire Wives also will hold a Fire Wives Turkey Trot in conjunction with KAIA Fit at 8 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. Registration for the 5K run is $30 for adults, or $25 for those 18 and younger. Register at the Northern Nevada Fire Wives Facebook page, or from 5-7 p.m. Nov. 26 at State Farm Insurance at 810 N. Nevada St.
Membership is open to the public, with annual dues at $15, and donations can be made on the organization’s website at www.nnfirewives.org.
