Abraham Curry (continued from Friday). He worked for the sake of work and not for mercenary motives. His was a boy’s mind in all but its strong energies and continued up to the time of his death. This is how he came to go ahead at all hazards and do things which thoughtful men regarded as “Utopian.” Abraham Curry was the Father of Carson. He made for use and not for ornament; he fulfilled his mission and died poor (continued Sunday).

130 years ago

Since the curfew ordinance went into effect, there has been a general disposition of the young men of Carson to strictly obey the law both in letter and spirit. Last Sunday night while services were going on in the churches, the solemn notes of the curfew rang at the 8 o’clock hour. In an instant, a number of boys who were engaged in devotional services rose to their feet and in one accord shot out the door and skinned home.

When Gov. Tasker L. Oddie was in Fallon last week he volunteered the information that he would use his good offices with the officers of the Lincoln National Highway Association to use its first allotment of national highway funds for Nevada in Churchill County — Standard.

70 years ago

Nevada state penitentiary inmates have purchased $2,284 in war bonds in one month. The prison, competing in the bond sales, carried all prisons in the United States and submitted two entries in the bomber naming contest. Monies from all prisons will be used in the purchasing of a bomber. The two names submitted were “Blue Boy” and “Pardon Us.”

Seven bright-eyed and beautiful young ladies will display their poise, personality and talent tonight at the Miss Carson City pageant. The winner will be an automatic entrant in the Miss Nevada contest in Las Vegas.

30 years ago

Although now defunct, the Carson River Water Development Task Force is urging the Bryan administration to act on a report recommending two dams be built on the Carson River.
