Does the Appeal think Columbus was an Indian, that it calls the vessel which sailed on his voyage of discovery the Pinta? Leave it to the printer brother Mighels, but be sure that in making the correction he don’t get it Pinto. — Reveille. No, we don’t think he was an Indian, but he must have known all about the Indians, for he used to live in Genoa, which is probably why he named his ship the Piute — which was the name written by us and mangled into “Pinta” by the printers — Editor.

Prison Tracks (continued from Wednesday). They found pieces of charcoal and a few large teeth, which evidently belonged to a human jaw. A stone war club was also found and brought to the Appeal office. It looked as if a hole had been bored in a piece of stone and a handle driven in, after which the handle had petrified. They also showed what they thought was a piece of precious metal, but on closer inspection was copper. They pushed the tunnel ahead hoping to find something of importance (continued Thursday).

Another group of enlisted men connected with the United States Army war training service program arrived in Carson to begin advanced training in flight instruction. This group completes the first fall class to be stationed in Carson.

The Carson High School football team has picked itself up and brushed itself off after a thrilling 7-6 loss to the Fallon Greenwave and now must get ready for a Nevada Day game against Hawthorne.
