Gov. Sandoval, Crowell praise Carson hospital

Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation and Carson City Mayor Robert Crowell gave a personal and official endorsement Wednesday to Sierra Surgery Hospital.

Nevada’s governor sent an aide to read his message lauding the hospital for winning two awards. The mayor told those gathered for a recognition ceremony about his times in the hospital.

“I was a patient here; have been a couple of times,” Crowell said. “In 2006, I had a real scare.”

He was speaking of a prostate operation and the revelation he had cancer. It was diagnosed as an aggressive stage 3 cancer, he said.

“That was a big deal for me,” Crowell said, noting he is cancer-free now.

The other operation was just a couple of months ago when he had knee surgery, which he said was a successful and satisfying experience.

In his official capacity, the mayor took the opportunity to say good education and health care help attract people to communities. He said Carson Tahoe Health Care’s campus and the Sierra Surgery facility at 1400 Medical Parkway that is a part of it contribute to that in Carson City.

“In particular, it happens at Sierra Surgery Hospital,” he said.

Sandoval noted in his communication read by Jackie Bryant, deputy chief of staff, that those gathered Wednesday were on hand to celebrate and honor the people who take care and provide great service to surgical patients — both outpatient and those who stay at the 15-bed facility.

“Consumer Reports (magazine) has recognized them as the #1 hospital for surgical care in Nevada,” the governor wrote. “In addition, they were also awarded the HealthInsight 2013 Hospital Quality Award.”

The awards were for patient satisfaction.
