Nearly serious: John Hansen and his wife drove their new and dashing gray into Carson ... They were both smiling in the buggy near Pearson’s soda factory when the buggy shaft got loose and dropped to the ground. The little gray horse cavorted about in a most lively fashion ... heading toward Warm Springs. Fortunately a halt was brought about when Mrs. H. jumped out and put the harness in order.

Beautiful car: The finishing touches are being put on a combined passenger and baggage car at the Virginia & Truckee Railroad Company shops. It is for the Carson & Colorado Railroad. The car is 36 feet long and seats 28 passengers. The interior is finished with natural walnut, seats covered with red plush and the armrests nickel plated. The exterior is painted canary color with olive trimmings. D. Culp did the painting, Benjamin Lyon the woodwork and Daniel Kelly the iron work ...

Ferris Wheel: The Review of Reviews prints a descriptive article on the Ferris wheel giving the whole history of Mr. Ferris who was a great engineer. It makes no mention that he was a Carson raised boy.

Girl majority: Civilian students returned to the University of Nevada for the opening of the second fall semester of World War II. The men are awaiting a call to the armed forces and are not attending the university.

Births at Carson Tahoe Hospital: A boy to Mr. and Mrs. George Wendell of Carson City. A girl to the parents of Mr. and Mrs. William Peden of Carson City.

The Public Employees Retirement System earned $126 million or 11.21 percent on its investment income. The PERS makes $10.5 million monthly and $11 million from contributions from about 50,000 public employees in Nevada.
