Fallon area farms face water order cut-off

FALLON (AP) — The Truckee-Carson Irrigation District says a water order cut-off looms for Fallon-area farmers as Lahontan Reservoir’s level continues to drop.

The district says it will no longer take orders for water delivery when estimated existing and standing orders bring the reservoir’s storage to 4,000 acre-feet of water.

The reservoir, which holds waters of the Carson and Truckee rivers west of Fallon, stored 13,673 acre-feet of water on Friday.

The district says the water order cut-off will occur earlier than originally thought, and it can’t guarantee any orders placed will be filled as the date approaches.

The reservoir’s water levels are down after last winter produced only roughly half of the Sierra Nevada’s average annual snowpack.
