Senator Square: Homecoming at Carson High School this week

The members of the CHS volleyball team and Skills USA would like to thank Capital Ford for hosting a Drive One 4UR School fundraiser last weekend. We truly appreciate all the support you have shown to CHS over the past several years. We would like to thank the community members who came out and test-drove a Ford vehicle and supported our programs. With those test drives, we were able to raise $6,000.

CHS PARENT NIGHTS

The guidance office will present information (college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, standardized testing, etc.) to parents at 6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 9 in the school library. The Monday presentation will be geared toward parents of seniors, while Wednesday’s will be for parents of juniors.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

The senior spotlight this week shines on Nicole Vairo. Nicole has a 4.08 weighted grade-point average.

Nicole is a varsity cheerleader and the senior representative for the National Honor Society, as well as a member of the Carson High School Link Crew.

Outside of school, Nicole is a member of the Girl Scouts of America, where she is working toward her Gold Award. To earn her Silver Award for Girl Scouts, Nicole developed modifications for Girl Scouts with cerebral palsy to be able to earn outdoor badges. At this time, Nicole is working toward her Gold Award by developing a Facebook page that guides teenage girls who are on their own to access community resources.

Nicole plans to become a doctor or forensic anthropologist. She is planning to apply to UNR and UNLV as well as some colleges out of state. Carson High School is proud of the contributions Nicole has made to the school as well as the community and wish her luck in her future endeavors.

STUDENT COUNCIL REPORT

The following is reported by Kyle Kunz.

Before we get too much into the homecoming festivities, this week’s student of the week is Erica Gallegos for her role in National History Day. Erica is a young lady who participated in project improvement seminars in Reno and gave 100 percent to make this project a huge success at the National History Day contest in Baltimore. Her positive attitude and diligence make her a model for Carson High School students. Thank you for being such a stud, Erica.

Now, for every student’s favorite week of the year, homecoming! The homecoming theme this year is Neon Cities. Each day will feature a new city that is incorporated with the events going on that night. Congrats to this year’s homecoming royal court. Your king candidates are Chase Blueberg, Tony Cacioppo, Ivan Gates, Andrew Gutierrez, Adam Shoaf and Gehrig Tucker. Your queen candidates are Katie Atkinson, Tara Berkich, Josi Daggs, Skylar Jones, Kiahna Pimental and Rachel Streeter. Congrats again on you accomplishments, guys!

Monday’s dress-up day will be neon class colors. Freshmen are yellow, sophomores are green, juniors are red and seniors are blue. Tuesday will be extreme pink. Wednesday will be Neon Minnesota, aka the twin cities. Plan on wearing the exact same outfit as what you and your friends plan out. When in doubt or you can’t find a twin, wear khaki pants and a black polo.

Thursday will be a Throwback Thursday. With a heavy ’80s inspiration, it’s best if you head down to the store and buy a new colorful pair of leg warmers. Friday will be extreme blue and white! Just blue and white clothing is not going to cut it this Friday. Accessories, face paint (as long as you are identifiable with it on), socks, shoes and hair will need to be included if you are going to make a claim to have any kind of school spirit whatsoever.

The next main aspect of a wonderful homecoming week is the lunchtime activities. Monday’s will be an intense scooter race. The winner will receive a mystery prize. On Tuesday, students will have to pick up as many glow sticks out of the pool as they can with their toes. The winner will receive two free Homecoming Dance tickets. Wednesday will be the battle of the brawn, when students from each class will compete in an arm-wrestling tournament. The winner from each class will face off in a finale and the ultimate winner will receive a lifetime of bragging rights and 50 points for their class in the class competition.

Thursday will be an exciting game of balloon assassin. Students will have to compete in the survival-of-the-fittest-like game, in which the last one with an un-popped balloon will receive two free Homecoming Dance tickets. Friday will be a pep rally.

Monday at 6 p.m. will be glow-in-the dark bowling in the Rifle Range in the ROTC building. Tuesday night will be the parade and bonfire. The parade will take place right in front of the school, from Robinson and Saliman streets to north entrance of the school.

Wednesday is the traditional Wednesday Night Live, in which drama students will take center stage at the community center to perform comedic acts. Thursday is the annual lip sync.

Come check out the various tastes of music the student body enjoys as they all perform their acts. Friday is the big night as we take on the Damonte Ranch Mustangs at 7. The theme for the game is superheroes, with a Carson Blue twist of course!
