A lecture on Mormonism was announced yesterday to take place at the Carson Theater by two “Wandering Sisters,” young women recently in on a visit from Salt Lake. The proposed lecture did not appear until late in the afternoon, but was attended by some 60 persons, including a few ladies.

130 years ago

In brief. Trout are beginning to run up the Carson River. There was a lively touch of spring yesterday. The Nevin Bondsmen are now holding seances twice a week.

100 years ago

At the recent school election held in Tonopah, the Socialist party, which had a full ticket in the field, were beaten by a two-to-one vote. Many individual socialists are said to have voted against their ticket, believing that school matters and politics should be taboo.

70 years ago

Now playing at the Carson Theatre Tuesday only — bargain night “Casablanca,” with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Children — 12c; all others — 30c. Wednesday and Thursday Lionel Barrymore, Donna Reed, Vic Johnson and Margaret O’Brien in “Dr. Gillespie’s Criminal Case.”

“Brown Cow” in quandary. A recent 20-minute discussion between the chamber of commerce and city council concerning various types of displays on Main Street, particularly the baby beef recently on display in front

of the Carson Nugget. Council members were informed they had no control over displays because state and federal highway regulations forbid such displays.

30 years ago

A handful of women stood on the road leading to the Northern Nevada Correctional Center Saturday afternoon, collecting signatures for a play yard for children visiting parents at the prison.
