Rhubarb is among the earliest green things; and though no one classes it amongst the choicest of horticultural gifts in the abstract, yet on account of its early growth it will always be esteemed. Its earliness being one of its valuable points, a place should be selected for it where it will get all the advantages of early spring suns. Some people help it by putting barrels over the roots.

Gov. Adams has gone to look after some of his cattle in the East. Whether this refers to the quadrupeds with short horns or the bipeds with short memories, it is not stated.

The coroner’s jury into the supposed suicide of Mrs. Abbie Cowing at the Blackwell Ranch in Ormsby County found no instance of arsenic or strychnine. Cowing’s death is now considered a particularly singular one, presenting some curious angles and now requires time to unravel it.

70 years ago

Paul Glanzmann died this morning at St. Mary’s hospital in Reno. Mr. Glanzmann was born in Carson and was a lifelong resident of the community. He was 52 years of age and was employed by the Nevada state industrial commission.

An unmanned project Gemini capsule rocketed into orbit today, scoring a resounding success for the United States.

Virginia City’s softball team lost a pair Saturday to Battle Mountain 14-4 and 11-8. Terre Kinne singled twice and drove in two runs for the Muckers. Teammate Connie Jacobson, who started and took the loss, singled twice.
