Four businesses will be recognized this week as the first to earn “Green BIG” designation from a group of business and community leaders in Douglas and Lyon counties and Carson City.
Companies to be recognized include Bently Ranch of Minden, Cassenelli Landscaping & Construction of Carson City, Comstock Seed of Gardnerville and Gweneth Pryzbylo, an independent consultant in Minden for Princess House, a home-products company.
The awards program was created by the Green Business Improvement Group.
Bill Chernock, executive director of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce in Gardnerville, said the Green BIG designation provides objective third-party evaluation of a company’s environmental practices.
Businesses start the process by completing a checklist at Nevadarecycles.nv.gov or carsonvalleynv.org. Members of the GBIG board review and approve applicants, who receive a green-business certificate they can use to promote their business.
