Carson High School World History students recognized

Carson High School history teacher Nicole Fagundes will again encourage her students to participate in National History Day, an annual competition that allows students to engage in historical research. This year’s theme is Leadership and Legacy.

Last year’s team qualified for the national competition in Washington, D.C. in June.

Madeline Carine placed 11th in the nation and was awarded Best in State for Nevada in the Individual Exhibit category. She also had the honor of having her exhibit, entitled Stalemate: The Cuban Missile Crisis and JFK’s Rights and Responsibilities, ​selected to display at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, D.C.

She competed in June along with Emily Chandler (Individual Documentary), Athena Favero, Eric Hines, and Austin Lowe (Group Documentary), Ikela Lewis (Individual Website), and Caroline Gabica and Katie Matuska (Group Exhibit — team member Allison Kibbe also qualified but was unable to attend).

“All of these students did a tremendous job representing our state, district and school,” Fagundes said.
