HopeFest to support cancer patients

Carson Tahoe Health Foundation’s annual HopeFest will be 5-8 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center.

In its fourth year, the fest raises money to help patients diagnosed with cancer in a variety of ways.

Kitty McKay, development officer for the Carson Tahoe Health Foundation, said funds are used to put gas in a patient’s car, a place to stay during treatment, assistance with insurance co-pays and help with medications.

“A lot of fundraisers go to research and the money leaves the area,” she said. “One hundred percent of our proceeds go to help our neighbors, our family and our friends. It is not an understatement to say this is a life-saving event.”

It will feature a free concert with Antsy McClain & the Trailer Park Troubadours, and concert-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

“It’s a really cool opportunity for us to get that caliber of entertainment,” McKay said. “They’re such an amazing act.”

While the concert is free, tickets will be sold for the barbecue, hand-crafted beer and unique wines.

Raffle tickets also are on sale for the chance to win either a new car from Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota or $10,000 cash.

All proceeds benefit area cancer patient support and Merriner Cottage Lodging, where patients may stay at no cost.
