A bicycle well known to longtime Carson City residents will be on the auction block a week from Sunday when the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada holds its annual Luau.
As his wife Liz put it, it’s former Mayor Marv Teixeira’s “infamous” bicycle.
Saying the arrest was his most embarrassing moment, Teixeira nonetheless made fun of himself by riding it away from the Carson Courthouse after pleading guilty to driving under the influence in 2007.
“You know Marv, he’s the first one to poke fun at himself, and he would be pretty much willing to do anything to get funds for the Boys & Girls Club,” she said.
Teixeira, who served three terms as the capital’s mayor, died in June at age 79.
His role in establishing the Boys & Girls Club was one of Teixeira’s proudest achievements.
“We’re going to put the infamous bike in the auction,” she said. “He would have loved it and hopefully it brings a few dollars.”
The annual “World’s Greatest Luau & Kids’ Auction” is the club’s annual fundraiser.
The event is scheduled for 3-7 p.m., Sept. 7 at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park. Tickets are $100 per person, which includes all you can eat barbecue and drinks.
This year, the club is also raffling off a 2013 Toyota Tacoma pickup donated by Northern Nevada’s Toyota dealers, as well as a trip to Hawaii. Raffle tickets are $20 apiece and only 2,000 will be sold.
