140 years ago

The Eureka stage was stopped by two men, who demanded the Wells & Fargo treasure box, at Diamond Wells last evening. The team, which was driven by Van, was a spirited one, and the order had to be repeated several times before they were brought to a stand still. The box was passed and while one man tried to break open the box, Jim Miller, a former Guard at the Nevada State Prison, was preparing for work. At first he thought of revolvers, then reached for the shot gun. In returning fire, Miller was wounded, and later the chest returned.

130 years ago

All the quartz mills on the Carson River are now running up to their full capacity. Counting in the mill’s in Six-Mile Canyon, there are now fully 400 stamps running on ore from the Comstock and other mines in Storey County, yet the stocks are all down.

100 YEARS AGO

Ready for winter. The lines of the Truckee River General Electric company throughout this section of the state have been placed in first-class shape for the coming winter and it is believed that there will be no danger of interruption of service due to the storms.

70 years ago

Motorists in Nevada have cut their driving habits almost one third since the outbreak of the war, says George Allard, chief statistician of the tax commission. For September, 1944m Nevadans used 2,780,423 gallons of gasoline.

50 years ago

KPTL Radio added a game to its lead in the Eagle Valley Bowling league with three wins while second place Mite as Well won two but lost one. Third place Capital City Mortuary failed to gain ground, also winning two and losing one.
