An interesting dog fight in the street in front of the Express office was brought to a sudden termination by the interference of a determined woman with a stout club. There should have been males gallant enough to have made this irruption unnecessary. But the fact is, the male mind finds pleasure in a dog fight.

A Bible Dancer. Ed. Appeal — The contribution in your paper against dancing contained a good deal from scripture. Now I think there is considerable scripture on the other side. Solomon, the wisest of mankind said, “There is a time to dance,” and again we read “David danced before The Lord,” and we do not get this entirely from outside authority, but David himself says: “Praise him in the cymbals and dances; praise him upon the strings and pipe.” This shows conclusively that they not only danced, but had an orchestra. Yours, a Bible Christian.

For some time past, ex-Assemblyman Leary has been conducting experiments in his blacksmith’s shop on the kind of dope to give a dog to augment its strength and fighting abilities. One day his dog that was invariably licked in any scrap, drank from his tub where he cooled his iron. He tried to stop the dog, but found the dog liked it and noticed the dog’s strength increase from water where iron had been cooled. Dog fanciers who desire dogs raised for the pit will do to investigate this new method of iron treatment for backward dogs.

The Elko Daily Free Press, because of manpower shortage, has found it necessary to cease daily publication and become tri-weekly. Chris Sheerin, editor of the Free Press for many years, recently had a heart attack and will be unable to continue for some time.

Murdock’s of Carson City clinched the 1963-64 title in the Nevada-California Inter-city Basketball League here Sunday with a runaway, 101-77 win over Waller Lumber of Reno.

June Harwood Spring, 80, a resident of a local convalescent center, is the winner of the National Olympic Poster Contest with her watercolor “Leaping for Freedom.”
