Bail nearly $60,000 for Carson City man arrested on vehicle-burglary counts

A 20-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday on two felony vehicle-burglary counts, as well as several misdemeanor counts.

According to the man’s arrest report:

Three deputies arrived at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive after receiving a report of a suspicious person walking near cars and checking doors. They set up a perimeter at the complex, then saw a man wearing a gray hoodie and carrying a backpack who was running up a stairwell.

They stopped the man, identified as Ezekial Brenn Okelley, at gunpoint, and he said he was going to jail and acknowledged he had a warrant. While patting him down, deputies found two kitchen-style steak knives. They also found a debit card with another person’s name on it, several other cards, a can of flat-tire repair and jumper cables in his backpack.

A deputy found an unlocked sport-utility vehicle near the stairwell Okelley had been spotted on and learned the owner lived at a nearby apartment. The owner verified that the flat-tire repair and jumper cables belonged to her.

Deputies then contacted the person whose name was on the debit card Okelley was carrying, and he verified that most of the other cards found on Okelley also were his. Deputies learned that Okelley had a violation-of-a-suspended-sentence warrant out of Carson City, and one noted that Okelley had been drinking despite being younger than 21. Okelley later took a breath test and had a blood-alcohol level of 0.167.

He was arrested at 8:54 p.m. on the two felony counts and the warrant, as well as on suspicion of two counts of possession of stolen property and minor consuming alcohol. Total bail was set at $58,100.

Okelley remained at the Carson City Jail on Thursday.
