SAN JOSE, Calif. — Deonte Burton scored 18 points and A.J. West had 15 as Nevada controlled the second half to open Mountain West Conference play with a 62-50 win over San Jose State on Wednesday night.
The Wolf Pack (6-8) trailed 26-25 at the half but used a 10-0 run to get the lead for good at 41-35 with 10:32 left in the game. Burton and Cole Huff had four points in the surge. Michael Perez had a 3 at 5:26 to make it 54-42. It was the only 3 in 12 attempts for Nevada.
Devante Wilson had 18 points and Chris Cunningham 10 for the Spartans (6-7), who had their four-game winning streak snapped.
West, in just his third game since being declared eligible after transferring from a New York junior college, also had nine rebounds. Huff had 10 for a 37-30 advantage. West made 6 of 8 shots.
