Crazy Quilt: Mrs. Harland who used to be employed in the Mint has become afflicted with cancer and for some years has been living in San Francisco. A few weeks ago, some benevolent ladies went about getting pieces of silk, etc. for a bed quilt for her. With the crazy quilt rage coming on, over 200 ladies agreed to give a square of silk each. When it was done, some of the squares were painted so beautifully that when the quilt was finished, they decided to put it on display in the White House window and have a raffle. Two hundred and fifty tickets have been sold — the money of which will go to Mrs. Harland ...

Coffee: Center for Science in the Public Interest says that the Federal Trade Commission should halt television spots as false and misleading. Caffeine in coffee “promotes anxiety, jitters and insomnia” — not “calmness and serenity” as ads suggest.
