The 5-year-old girl who was struck and killed on her bicycle Thursday in Fernley was accompanied by another child who was riding a scooter, as well as her grandmother, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
That and other details about the accident emerged Friday. Also according to the Highway Patrol:
Alysia Simper was riding on the sidewalk along Seventh Street, and her grandmother was riding a bicycle with the two girls. The girl on the scooter might have fallen or stopped, and the grandmother stopped to assist her. Alysia kept going and was struck at 4 p.m. by a 1996 Mercedes sedan backing out of a driveway. The rear part of the car struck Alysia, ejecting her from her tricycle. It then backed over her.
Driver Patricia A. Anderson, 53, was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI causing death after allegedly showing signs of intoxication. Bail was set at $40,115.
