Michael Dylan Brentlinger, who is suspected of fatally shooting a Carson City man and wounding the man’s 19-year-old daughter Saturday morning, has fatally shot himself in Reno, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
Brentlinger, 22, was seen fleeing the 2800 block of Carmine Street in a white 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier with Nevada license plate 948XAT on Saturday, Furlong said. Reno Police Department officers identified him ater 1 p.m. Monday and cornered him on the tennis courts at Manzanita Park, Furlong said.
“He displayed a gun, and they tried to talk him down,” Furlong said. “That failed.”
The shooting was reported at 5:57 a.m. Saturday, Furlong said.
Brentlinger used to live at the Carmine Street residence and formerly dated the woman he shot, Furlong said.
The sheriff said Brentlinger was arrested Dec. 5 on charges of trespassing after returning to the residence. Furlong said the woman requested and was granted a personal protection order against Brentlinger.
Saturday morning, Douglas and Carson City authorities swarmed a Gardnerville home near Hussman Avenue and Jessica Lane, looking for Brentlinger.
Brentlinger’s mother lives in Carson City and his father lives in Reno, Furlong said.
