Turning Reno into a business boom town is the focus of a book club this month in anticipation of The Chamber’s upcoming annual economic forum.

The Chamber, Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, consulting group Pistil & Stigma and Girlma.de, an accelerator program for woman entrepreneurs, are hosting a discussion of “The Rainforest: The Secret to Building the Next Silicon Valley,” written by Victor Hwang, who will be the keynote speaker at the Chamber’s Directions Economic Forum on Jan. 30.

EDAWN says the book “analyzes the patterns of human interactions and certain cultural behaviors that create the most productive ‘innovation ecosystems,’ such as those found in Silicon Valley.” The book was awarded the Book of the Year (Gold Medal) from Foreword Reviews as well as the 2013 Small Business Book Award.

The book club discussion is open to the public and will be at the Reno Collective, 100 N. Arlington Ave., from 6-7:30 p.m. on three consecutive Thursdays starting Jan. 9. The economic forum is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Peppermill Casino Resort Spa Capri Ballroom. Tickets for the event are available at The Chamber Web site at www.thechambernv.org.
