FERNLEY — Community members in Fernley are mourning two teenagers found dead of apparent carbon monoxide inside an idling SUV.
KTVN-TV reports a memorial sprouted up in front of the home of Alondra Rivera on Wednesday. Friends told the station Rivera and 16-year-old Zack Dwyer, who also died, were a huge part of Fernley High School.
Lyon County sheriff’s Lt. J.L. Pattison says Dwyer had picked up Rivera at her house Tuesday evening and was supposed to bring her back by her 10 p.m. curfew.
Rivera’s mother went out to check on the Toyota 4 Runner that was still running in front of her house just before midnight, and found the two dead.
Pattison says the pair may have gone four-wheeling and damaged the tailpipe system, causing exhaust to fill the cabin.
