Senators Square: Alumni night coming up at Carson High School

THEATER PERFORMANCE

Carson High’s production of Larry Shue’s comedy “The Foreigner,” directed by Dana Fleming is coming to the Community Center. The story is about a British man named Charlie who visits a fishing lodge in rural Georgia with his friend Sgt. Froggy, and is taken on the ride of his life.

He meets an ex-debutante, her backward brother, a reverend who is not all he appears to be — an eccentric lodge matron, and a dangerous, racist property inspector. Charlie is introduced as a “foreigner” and hilarity ensues.

This is one production you do not want to miss! The production stars CHS students Jackson Baker, Ivan Gates, Abbey Greene, Michael Irvin, Rylan Kane, Amanda Ramse, and Dylan Shirey. Stage managed by Challen Wright and Logan Reynolds.

The production shows for six performances: 7 p.m. Jan. 17, 18, 23, and 24; 2 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for students and children.

BUSINESS STUDENTS EXCEL

Carson High business classes competed in the Stock Market Game this past semester.

Brandon Fleischhacker, Gladys Galvin and Michelle Harrison placed third among Nevada school teams. In just more than two months they grew their $100,000 portfolio to over $112,000 for an amazing 72 percent rate of return and far outperformed the S&P 500. Sierra Grayshield, Liza Mathews, and Fabiola Mata placed 13th in the same game.

ALUMNI NIGHT

CHS Senator Pride is holding the eighth annual Alumni Night at CHS on Jan. 21. The basketball varsity girls and boys teams will both be in action that night against our rival, the Douglas Tigers. All CHS alumni are invited to come and see the Senators. A variety of raffles will be held that night just for alumni. Alumni are asked to check in at the alumni table to get their special raffle tickets. Game times are at 5:30 p.m. for the girls and 7 p.m. for the boys game.

UPCOMING AUDITIONS FOR TALENT SHOW

The CHS talent show is coming up 7 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Community Center. Carson High students wanting to be a part of this talent show must audition. Auditions will be in Senator Square 2-5 p.m. Jan. 30 in the upstairs cafeteria.

Applications must be filled out and returned the day of the audition. Cash prizes will be awarded.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week’s senior in the spotlight is Dustin Dutcher.

He has a weighted grade-point average of 4.38. Dustin has played baseball for Carson High School for four years, with two of those being varsity.

He is a math tutor, a member of National Honors Society, CHS Link Crew, and is also a three-time academic letter recipient. Dustin is working on obtaining his rescue scuba diving license for his senior project. His work toward that has also led to a study he will take part in this summer involving aquatic invasive species at Lake Tahoe.

When Dustin isn’t playing baseball, or studying for his many advanced-placement and honors classes, he enjoys backpacking and snow camping. He plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno where he will major in chemistry, and minor in wildlife ecology.
