Professor Brisley’s balloon may come sailing to Carson. His first ascension landed near Folsom. The telegraph says, “A large balloon, containing three persons… passed over this place at 7:15 this morning… It appeared about the size of a ten gallon keg. The basket or parachute could be plainly seen… Variously estimated to be at an altitude of eight to ten miles…”

Fashion notes: Wraps are all small, except the long dust-cloak worn in traveling, which is usually made of pongee. The old fashion “linen duster” is no longer seen. Bonnets are usually small, and nearly all the trimming, on both bonnets and hats, is massed in front or on the left side…
