A fire broke out at Captain Pray’s planning mill at Glenbrook. It was caused by sparks falling in a heap of dry saw dust and causing the explosion of some powder and fireworks placed their by children on the 4th. An alarm from the company’s mill brought workmen and residents of the town to extinguish the flames. Captain Pray expresses his thanks to those who so kindly helped…

Mr. Loose encountered a terrific cloud burst on his way from Bodie. It inundated the country as far as the Mormon Ranch and tore down a milk house, drowning two Frenchmen. Mr. Loose had to camp in his buggy with the water up to the horse’s knees…
