Diamonds take title game over WildCats

The Reno Diamonds scored seven runs in the fourth inning, all unearned, en route to an 8-2 win over the Nevada Yellow WildCats Sunday morning in the All-World All-Sports World Series championship game.

It was the WildCats’ second loss of the tournament to the Diamonds. The WildCats reached the finals with a 4-3 win over NorCal.

The WildCats scored one in the first and one in the sixth. Jennifer Purcell homered for the locals, who also had hits from Kyla Duggins and Bailey Barcellos.

Against NorCal Kelsie Callahan homered and Valarie Quam had a run-scoring double. Kaitlyn Jimmy picked up the win in the circle.

The WildCats’ Blue squad also played in the tournament. Led by Erica Watson, the team posted a 3-2 record. The Blue squad opened the tourney on Thursday with a 12-0 win over the Fallon Rebels and then followed up with a 5-2 win over the Clovis Rockets. The locals improved to 3-0 with an 11-10 extra-inning win over the Reno Maniax before losing 13-0 to the Reno Diamonds and 17-9 to the Valley Venom.

In the win over Fallon, Watson, Gabby Winder and Elise Brady all had two hits. Watson picked up the pitching win.

Justina Hawley pitched the WildCats past Clovis. Watson and Genevieve Dryer both had two hits.

Against Reno, Terryn Earle went 3-for-3, while Sara Miler, Abby Almond, Caitlyn Folkers and Winder all had two hits. One of Folkers’ hits was a homer.

Fraga records ace

at Thunder Canyon

Mike Fraga aced the 157-yard par-3 8th at Thunder Canyon on July 13.

Fraga used an 8-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Saul Singer and Bill Stanley.

Butch Cattanach and Carl Baker posted a 65 to win the men’s 4-ball stroke play event July 11 at Thunder Canyon. Dan Culbert and Mike Dyer, and Jerry Hughes and Max Gundlach tied for second with 65s. Mike Bennert and Dave Westfall were fourth with a 66.

Gayle Block, Sandi Oglesby, Joyce Powell and Susan Hood posted a 130 to win the women’s One in the Bucket tournament. Shelly Brewster, Tina Hughes, LeAnne Crowell and Carol Boice were second with a 132.

Shabi grabs win at

Empire Ranch

Jim Shabi shot a net 62 to win Flight A at the Empire Ranch Senor Men’s Club stroke play tournament. Phil King, David Knighton and Tom Zogorski tied for second with 64s.

Mike Vadnais won Flight B with a 62, four shots better than Nick Paul and six shots better than Robey Willis and John Lewis. Adam Huber won Flight C with a 58, seven shots better than Clark Reid and Tom Harlow. Bob Pluth won Flight D with a 64, one shot better than Dino DiCampo and three shots better than Paul Lockwood.

Sparman trio wins at

Carson Valley

Jack Sparman, Joe Morrison and John Tavernier shot 129 to win the Carson Valley Men’s Club cha-cha-cha event on July 13.

Second was a tie between Paul Lockwood, Roger Hala and Matthew Cox, and G. Paulson, Charles Poe and John Watson. Both teams were at 136.

On July 6, Sparman shot a net 69 to win Flight A at the red, white and blue tee event. Dennis Patterson was second with a 72 and Bob Pemberton was third with a 73.

Bruce Sanford won Flight B with a 73, two shots ahead of David Morris. Neil Bain won the Flight C tiebreaker over Gary Carsten. Both golfers shot 80.
