Superintendent Richard Stokes has named Tasha Fuson of Washoe Valley the new principal of Carson High School — the second woman to hold that post at CHS.
She replaces Ron Beck who is retiring.
Fuson has been principal of Spanish Springs High School in Reno’s north valleys for the past five years. She was named Principal of the Year by the Washoe County School District last year. During her tenure at Spanish Springs, the school made significant gains in graduation rates.
She began her education career as a special education teacher for seven years. Since 2002, she has been an administrator.
She and her husband have two sons attending the University of Nevada, Reno and a daughter in high school.
Fuson lists her hobbies as hiking, kayaking and gardening.
Fuson will be presented to the Carson School District board at its meeting on Tuesday.
According to the available records, Carson High’s first female principal was Pat Haller who retired from the post in 1992. A spokesman for the district said there might have been an earlier female principal in the 1930s or 1940s during World War II.
