Uncle Tread (Farmer Treadway) has a new horse that is a mere bottle shaped equine than his other, the lambasted “Major.” This one looks like too much of a plug to attempt to buck the locomotive off the track… He is a respected remnant of the Mexican War.

Part II: I arrived at the ruins of an old log cabin. The walls had the following inscription: “Oct. 23d, 1870, Geo. Hunt and party snowed in and short of provisions. 24th. Snowing heavy and nothing to eat. 25th. Killed brown mule; sweet but tough by G---.” Entering the walls would afford slight protection, I found an ample supply of fuel in the remains of the roof and soon had a cheerful blaze before partaking of a frugal meal... and laid down to rest.” (continued on Wednesday)

The electric lights were in service. The company finished the work on the flume and for many minute the customers in this city discarded the oil lamps. The company is to be complimented on the rush in which the work was carried on—it costs thousands of dollars every day the Comstock is shut down.

Husband of local girl in famous bombing flight--Second Lieutenant Quinter O. Gilbert, Jr., 27 year old B-17 Flying Fortress pilot of Wellington, Nevada, was part of a select force on the 7,000 battle flight which saw Fortresses strike at Nazi targets in Germany, Poland, Roumania and France. Mrs. Gilbert, the former Ellen Wedertz and former employee of the Nevada State Highway Department has purchased the Pattison home on North Nevada in Carson City.

Residents and out of towners came to the Carson City Post Office for the Nevada Centennial Commemorative five-cent stamp… The Carson City Post Office is the only post office in the United States authorized to sell this stamp on its “first day of sale.”

Ye old art festival for the annual Sherwood Forest Festival will take place in Mills Park to benefit the Brewery Arts Center. Featured games for children will be exploring the dank, dark dungeon, climbing Jacob’s ladder and trying to capture the unicorn. Robin Hood and his merry band of rogues will hold court.
