The Carson City Library has joined the Salvation Army’s Carson City Corps Community Center in preparing students for the upcoming school year. The back-to-school supply drive will run through Aug. 11.

A collection barrel and Apple Tree Poster is located at the library’s main Help Desk. On the tree are apples with the name of a student and a list of about four to five items the student will need for the upcoming school year. Patrons may take an apple from the tree, purchase the items requested on the apple and return the items along with the apple to the library to be placed in the barrel. The community’s help in sending local-area students back to school with much needed school supplies will help children be prepared and successful in the classroom.

A list of items being collected include: book bag or back pack; pencil bag or box; washable white glue, 8 oz bottle; glue sticks; crayons, 24 count; colored pencils, 24 count; No. 2 pencils; large rectangular eraser, pink; spiral notebooks, 70 pages; packet folders; notebook paper; 12-inch ruler; protractor; blue, black and red ink pens; highlighters, different colors; washable markers, 8 count; low odor dry erase markers; flash drive/memory stick; graph paper; and calculators.
