Johnny Rockets has been chosen as the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada’s spotlight business of the month, and it will collect donations for the club through June.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada, in association with Boys and Girls Clubs of America, participates in the national It Just Takes One campaign, which raises proceeds to help clubs across the nation meet their goals in educating, caring and providing a safe and rewarding environment for youths.
“At the Western Nevada club we have taken it a step closer to heart and have asked local businesses to team up with us and ask their customers as they pay their bill, if they would like to donate a dollar (or different amount) to help defray the costs of tuition for families that cannot afford to send their children to the club,” said Cliff Sorensen, board secretary for Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada.
At the end of the month, donations are calculated, and the hosting business writes a check to the club. The business can also decide to match customer donations.
Sorensen said the club does not turn children away, regardless of their ability to pay, and members are only charged $30 per year, even though it costs the club $510 per year per member to operate.
Johnny Rockets is at 4600 Snyder Ave. For more information about the club or the event, call Laurie Gorris at 775-882-8820, or email laurieg@bgcwn.org, or call Tamara Jennings at 775-883-2607, or Sorensen at 775-720-4283.
