Award-winning director screens film Sunday in Carson

Mary Mazzio, an award-winning documentary film director and founder and CEO of 50 Eggs, Inc., an independent film production company dedicated to creating films with social impact, will preview her newest film, “Underwater Dreams,” at 7 p.m. Sunday at Galaxy Theater.

The film, narrated by Michael Pena, chronicles the true story of how the sons of Mexican immigrants learned to build underwater robots and went on to compete against the likes of students from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a sophisticated underwater robotics competition sponsored by NASA and the Office of Naval Research.

The viewing will be in Galaxy Theater’s private auditorium and is free and open to the public. Seating is limited to the first 60 people. Mazzio will respond to questions and comments from the audience following the showing. For more information, go to www.sierranevada.edu.

Mazzio is currently serving as a mentor in the MiddCORE Immersion program, a four-week intensive summer program that is a partnership between Middlebury College in Vermont and Sierra Nevada College in Incline Village. The program draws college students from around the country to the Incline Village campus for an experiential learning experience that includes a series of challenges posed by CEOs and leaders of businesses and non-profit organizations. Students create innovative solutions to real-world problems, test the feasibility of their ideas, and submit their solutions to the CEOs for consideration. Mazzio will be on campus this week working with students as they develop a marketing plan for 50 Eggs, Inc.
