The Committee of the Whole on the Fourth of July celebration met yesterday in the sheriff’s office and formed subcommittees as follows: committee on music, invitations, printing and decoration — Messrs. Doane, Freeman, Pedola and Bosco; committee on car of state, stand, ordinance and carriages, Gilson, Swift, Witherell and Rosser. The matter of selecting an orator, a poet and a chaplain was left to the committee of the whole. Sheriff S.T. Swift was chosen to act as Grand Marshal.

About the best criterion regarding anything about the Lake is the lake trout. When he comes out of his deep winter quarters, hotel keepers understand it is time to begin business. Under new arrangements with Capt. Todman with his new steamer, tourists now leave Glenbrook at 1 and visit Rowlands, Yanks, Tallac, McKinney’s and Tahoe City in regular order.

John Lane, a miner in Rochester ever since the camp started, was taken sick several days ago and was removed to Reno by the local Knights of Pythias, of which he is a member. He has fully developed a case of spotted fever, caused by the bite of a tick.

Jackie Brady, 17, and Louie Hepp, 14, of Hayward, Calif., made the trip from their home to the home of young Brady’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Brady, on their bicycles a week ago. The boys started from Hayward on Friday and arrived at the Brady’s at the county hospital on Clear Creek road the following Sunday morning.
