Gary Bowers has been “away from the body and at home with the Lord” since June 12, 2013. I still miss him. I reminisce about the hours we spent downing countless cups of rich, hot coffee and more than a few delicious doughnuts.
I’d love to get together with Gary and pick his brain. Gary possessed a tremendous knowledge of God’s word and he consistently lived up to God’s word in his daily life. He provided a Christlike example for others to follow.
Gary had a favorite Bible verse which epitomized his faithful life. The verse is II Timothy 2:15. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” This verse continually encouraged Gary to study God’s word. Like the first century Christians, Gary devoted himself to the “apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”
Gary was a workman who rightly divided the word of truth. He was a doer of the word. He was a wise man who put our Lord’s words into practice. He built his life on the Rock. He did abide in the word and now he abides with the Word in heaven, in the Father’s house.
Gary’s favorite verse and his Christlike example will continue to motivate many people heavenward for years to come.
