Summer program begins

Silver City’s annual children’s summer program began Thursday, and the morning activities included a visit from locals Will Rose and Sheree Rose, who brought their bright yellow downhill racer — motorless gravity car — and explained how its design makes it work.

The couple’s fine arts store, Doodads Emporium, is sponsoring the first Silver City Invitational Downhill Derby in September. The Derby will include a contest for best art soapbox cars, plus an invitation-only downhill gravity car timed race and an arts fair in the town park.
