140 years ago

The circus. The sawdust arena is about to open its charmingest attractions. This time, unlike some years, our best circus is to come first. John Wilson, with his splendid array of performers, comes to take the cream of the circus patronage.

130 years ago

On Saturday night, the Holiness band made its appearance in this city, and it was naturally mistaken for the Salvation Army, of which they form no part.

The people here belong to the Pacific Coast Holiness Association and are three persons in all, Rev. G. Newton of the Methodist church accompanied by Misses Sophia and Fannie Samsen. They began work Saturday evening by singing and exhorting in front of Sweeny’s saloon.

100 years ago

Under a canopy made of “Old Glory” and supported by a bevy of young girls dressed in national colors, Miss Eleanor Siebert, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Siebert and niece of Gov. Oddie, will be escorted to the Virginia and Truckee depot and eventually for Quincy, Mass., where on the 11th of next month she will serve as sponsor in the christening of the battleship Nevada. Onlookers will wish Miss Siebert Godspeed on her trip.

70 years ago

The Lions Club was entertained with war pictures at its regular Monday noon meeting. Raby J. Newton showed pictures recorded of the invasion of the Marshall Islands and were part of the fifth war loan drive.

50 years ago

More than 500 vintage vehicles will chug through Carson City this Wednesday on route to Lake Tahoe in the eighth biennial tour of the Horseless Carriage Club of America.

30 years ago

The Welcome Wagon Club’s new president of the next year is Arleene Fisher. Fisher is a recent transplant from Hacienda Heights, Calif. New first Vice President is Doris Ianne, a nine-year-resident from Glendale, Calif.
