Calling a dog: A gentleman who possesses a remarkably intelligent dog lost the animal. Jack was happily found by a friend of its owner. He called his friend by telephone and asked, “Have you lost your dog?” “Yes,” was the reply. “Suppose you call him on the telephone.” The dog was lifted up and the earpiece placed at his ear. “Jack! Jack!” called its master. Jack recognized its master’s voice and began to yelp and then licked the telephone fondly (Scientific American).

Centennial Committee: Early day families who came here prior to Jan. 1, 1900, have filled out the questionnaire recently sent out by the Centennial Committee. Early day families being recorded need not have been born in the state in order to gain recognition. Some arrived in wagon trains, some by rail. Early day families all came from other states.

The John D. Winters donation will benefit many. The contribution made by the Winters’ Family Trust and Cold Springs Properties Ltd. of 108 acres of land valued at an estimated $918,000 will not only provide a new golf course, but will bring more opportunities and more tourists to the area.
