A series of Scout Join Nights is being planned in Lyon and Storey counties to encourage membership in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

The District Membership Committee will also be looking for organizations that want to serve youth and support Scouting by being Charter Partners, or sponsors, of new Packs, Troops and Crews.

In Virginia City, there will be a Scout Join Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hugh Gallagher Elementary School, in an attempt to restart Virginia City’s Cub Scout Pack 847. It will serve boys currently in kindergarten through fourth grade. Recruiting will also be open for Boy Scout Troop 847, which serves both Virginia City and Dayton. Young men need to be between the ages of 11 and 17 to join the Troop; however, boys, age 10, in fifth grade are encouraged to check out the Troop now.

In Dayton, Scout Join Nights will be held for both Cub Scout Pack 360 and Boy Scout Troop 847 as follows:

• 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 9, Dayton Intermediate School.

• 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 15, Sutro Elementary School.

• 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 17, Riverview Elementary School.

All of the Scout Join Nights are open to young men and their parents from anywhere in Pinenut District, which covers Carson City, Dayton, Virginia City, Douglas County and parts of California.
