140 Years Ago

Handsome windows have been set in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The canopy and sides of the Chancel make a very handsome display. Carpets have been received and everything will be finished in a few days.

Runaway: A couple of drunken Frenchmen were thrown out of buggy near the Mint. The horses attached to the vehicle dashed up the street, broke through the picket fence and went into M. W. Starling’s yard where they became so tangled up they could not proceed. No one was hurt.

120 Years Ago

All sorts: Gilbert Briggs is busily engaged hemming a lot of new napkins for his tables. He runs the whole business and threads needles as well. (Briggs Hotel and St. Charles Hotel are at the same location today.)

70 Years Ago

Advertisement: “Carson Theater — ‘Phantom of the Opera’ in Technicolor with Nelson Eddy and Susanna Foster, Disney cartoon and news.”

Photo caption: Mighty Casey — One might recall that baseball player of folklore as mighty Casey Kruse, 5, as he goes to bat during Carson City High School Senators’ baseball practice and swings at a warm-up ball. The name Kruse is somewhat of a legend of local sports lore. Big brother Stacey plays outfield for the Senators.
