140 Years Ago

Alida Valley was visited by a severe thunderstorm where lightning played some antics that kept the citizens in a state of excitement. The liberty-pole of the town occupies the center of the space formed by two main streets. The lightning struck the liberty-pole and split it in two parts. In one direction head to the restaurant of Antoine Barba, knocking the stovepipe to pieces and stunning the Chinese cook. Three goats were killed at a distance of about 50 feet (Borax Miner).

Henry Dube, a Frenchman sentenced to 10 years in the State Prison, was brought to Carson from Lander County. He considers his outlook Dube-ious.

Carson Chatters (high school newspaper): Claire O’Shaughnessy, known as “Cairie,” is a member of La Sool and the Glee Club. After graduation she will be entering the United States Nurse Corps. We expect another Florence Nightingale!
