Jewett W. Adams, a man who holds the highest office of the state, is also a poker player. One of his latest dodges is to give all those who go with him a letter of recommendation to one of the superintendents of the mines in Virginia (City). The laborers with these letters are rarely given work. The laborer ponders over the matter and concludes that it is not Mr. Adams’ fault because he took the trouble to write a letter of recommendation for him which he knows will be of no account (Lyon County Times).

Carson will enjoy one of the big tented circuses — the Great Floto show. The Carson boy has the reputation of being able to absorb more pure joy than any other boy in this country. It is doubtful whether the Carson City lad can possibly see everything that is new and wonderful in the big show without crying enough. (Continued on Friday.)

Miss Elizabeth Dayton of Reno has been appointed curator of the Nevada State Museum to succeed Mrs. John M. Janssen. Miss Dayton worked in the state museum for three months one summer and has since graduated from the University of California with a degree in anthropology.

“The Natural,” a film about baseball starring Robert Redford, took the top money-maker spot. “Breakin’,” a celebration of break-dancing, held No. 2 and “Romancing the Stone” took third.
