The sixth annual Ascent Runs Winter Trail Series begins on Nov. 22 with the Cold Turkey Run in Washoe State Park.

It’s the first of five runs in the Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series, which features one run every month through March.

“These casual runs were created to keep runners and walker motivated through the winter months and also as a way to supplement your winter training,” said Kevin Bigley, owner of Ascent Physical Therapy, which sponsors the series. “This series is a great trainer for the Escape From Prison Hill Half Marathon and 10K to be held on April 18, 2015.”

The cost is $20 per run with the option of purchasing a technical shirt for $45.

“Each event includes a 5K and what we like to call a 10K-plus run,” Bigley said. “If trail conditions are favorable we may extend the 10K to 7 or 8 miles.”

The runs continue with Running with Rudolph on Dec. 13 in Ash Canyon, Centennial Slug it Out on Jan. 10 at Centennial Park, Love Can Be Cold on Feb. 14 at Prison Hill and the C Hill, Run Hill on March 7 at Long Ranch Park.

“The runs highlight the growing trail network surrounding Carson City,” Bigley said. “Walkers are welcome to any of these events.”

He said participants should be prepared to carry their own water, as there are no aid stations on any of the runs.
