WOODEN NICKEL: We waste no time in giving out a wooden nickel to all those who use the Carson River as a dumping ground which makes the cleanup day necessary

SILVER DOLLAR: Back to honoring those who deserve praise, we recognize Devin Galloway for being honored with the William T. Hornaday Gold Medal, a national Boy Scouts of America award recognizing those for natural resources conservation. Galloway has been involved with the Boys Scouts for 50 years, or in other words, almost his entire life.

SILVER DOLLAR: As this was written, we still didn’t know who was selected as Carson High’s Homecoming King and Queen Friday night, but we recognize all the candidates: Kyle Kunz, Jared Hearn, Dilyn Rooker, Nolan Shine, Fred Christensen and Casey Stevens and Abbey Dudley, Lindsay Hettrick, Bailie Zuber, Chantal Torres, Sarah Christl and Jessica Basa.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Douglas High senior Olivia Abbott for winning the recent College of Marin Heptathlon. Also to Carson High senior Madison Preston for finishing third and Douglas senior Morgan Weston for finishing fourth in the same event. And to Carson City coach Mike Louisiana for his work with these athletes.

SILVER DOLLAR: Posthumously to firefighters John T. DeLucchi and Donovan Garcia Jr., who were honored last weekend during a ceremony at the Nevada Firefighters Memorial at Mills Park.

WOODEN NICKEL: To Major League Baseball and to the FOX Television Network for its role as well in the TV schedule of the MLB playoffs, especially the league championship series. As far as we’re concerned all of the league championship series games should have been broadcast on FOX, not Fox Sports 1 or TBS. There are still people out there who don’t have access to Fox Sports 1 and TBS and haven’t been able to watch most of the playoffs.

WOODEN NICKEL: It’s always been a problem, but of late, it seems it’s been more of a problem in Carson City: People on their cell phones while they’re driving. Obviously what’s important about you people who refuse to put down your cell phones while your driving is you’re actually endangering your own life – and the lives of others. But trust us, those of you who think you look important when you’re using your cell phone while you’re driving, to the rest of us who are on the road with you, we’re saying something else and it’s not that you look important.
