We had an exciting week at CHS, including a video message from our rivals from the south at Douglas High School. The Douglas staff challenged our staff to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. More than 50 Carson High School teachers and staff showed up for the challenge, as we could never let the Tigers out-do us. For the next week, a bucket has been set up in our office collecting donations for the ALS association.

To see the video, go to nevadaappeal.com/news/12790546-113/carson-challenge-als-douglas. Also, as the challenge goes, CHS had to challenge an additional three participants. Eagle Valley Middle School, Carson Middle School and Pioneer High School were called next to the challenge. We’d like to send a big thanks to Cinderlite for bringing the water truck to drown us with water.

Remember Monday is the Labor Day Holiday and all schools in the Carson City School District are closed. Schools will reopen on Tuesday. Carson High will be back in session and it will be a B-day schedule.

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL FUSON

The school year is off to a great start at Carson High School! We have 2,177 students enrolled for the 2014-2015 school year. As the principal, I would like to formally announce that former deans of students, Bob Chambers and Gavin Ward, have been promoted to vice principals. Mr. Chambers and Mr. Ward have both served many years as teachers and deans with the Carson City School District and at Carson High School. I look forward to their continued leadership at CHS.

Lastly, I would like to remind all our parents and students that our open house will be 6 p.m. Wednesday. Opening ceremonies will be in the gymnasium. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

MATH TUTORING

The CHS free math tutoring program runs 2-3 p.m. every day except early out days in room 223 starting Wednesday. All students are welcome and encouraged to stop by after school if you need math homework help.

ROTARY EXCHANGE MEETING

Students who are interested in studying abroad are invited to attend an informational meeting presented by Rotary Youth Exchange during lunch Thursday in the CHS library. For more information about the program, visitwww.rye5190.org.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

This week’s senior spotlight is on Sarah Christl. Sarah has a 4.83 grade-point average and is carrying a full load of advanced-placement and honors classes for her senior year. Sarah is the senior class president and is the CHS chapter president of Skills USA, an organization that allows students in career and technical fields to compete on a local, state and national level.

She’s also a member of National Honor Society, Link Crew and has played volleyball for all four years, serving this year as captain of the varsity team. Sarah is undecided on where to attend college next year and is in the process of sorting through her many choices.

She’s also undecided on her field of study, but is interested in something in the liberal arts.

We are proud of the contributions Sarah has made to Carson High School and wish her the best of luck in the future.

Angila Golik is a government teacher at Carson High School and a member of Senator Pride.
