Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels: TeslaWorld — Everybody receives a Silver Dollar

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: So TeslaWorld is coming to Northern Nevada. We’re calling it TeslaWorld because Elon Musk is the Jerry Jones of the corporate world. Much like what sports owners do when they leverage cities against each other when trying to finance a new stadium, Musk leveraged several states against each other before choosing Nevada. So Musk receives a Silver Dollar for his shrewd negotiation skills.

But like Oprah Winfrey, we’re giving out numerous Silver Dollars. Gov. Brian Sandoval and Governor’s Office of Economic Development, you get a Silver Dollar. Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, you get a Silver Dollar. The Legislature — well, we hope you get a Silver Dollar next week. Senator Harry Reid, you get a Silver Dollar. The State of Nevada, you get a Silver Dollar. We all get a Silver Dollar.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Marlene Maffei for being named Food For Thought executive director and to the organization for making sure as many children as possible don’t go hungry on the weekends.

SILVER DOLLAR: To Juan Guzman, who’s retiring, for his sense of humor and his service as Carson City Open Space Manager. Guzman was the open space manager the past 14 years.

Earlier in the summer Guzman talked about the transactions of open space that we all enjoy. He said 14 transactions in 14 years and some donations, as well as land transfers from the Federal government, mean there is much open space. He said 1,500 acres have been bought; 900 along the Carson Range came from the U.S. Forest Service, and 3,500 more on the city’s east side are about to transfer in from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management for city stewardship. Thank you Juan for your service.
