Fruit stealing boys. Mr. John G. Fox’s little orchard at the head of Spear Street has borne quite abundantly this year — especially one damson tree and the pear tree. Before the fruit could get fairly ripe, the trees have been stripped of their fruit by marauding boys. Sarah Winnemucca’s speech. Those who did not hear Princess Winnemucca missed a treat. There were not more than 20 people in the house when she came on stage. She was particularly severe on Indian agents and preachers and held that both these classes robbed the Indian men. In a pantomime passage she represented a missionary preaching to the Indians and as he knelt to pray to the Great Spirit, he had one hand lifted up to heaven and the other rummaging in a money sack. Princess Winnemucca said, “When I spoke in Boston, my angel mother got up on the platform and began to talk, and I had a hard time to choke that angel mother off.”

All sorts: A visitor at Mound House states that carpenters and surveyors are at work on the new ore sampling works. A mine booster and a horse buyer buncoed residents of Eureka County out of several thousand dollars. Boys spend the evening playing marbles in front of the Appeal office by aid of the electric lights.

Christmas shopping: A reminder is aimed at all military personnel and citizens in the eight western states who are sending Christmas parcels to relatives and friends in overseas theaters of operations. Gifts must be mailed before Oct. 15.

Carson City Supervisors welcome Sky West. They will initiate two nonstop daily flights between Carson City and Las Vegas.
