Community roundup: Sear wins low gross title in Thunder Canyon event

Steve Sear, Randy Plymell and Glenn Tsuda walked away with championships at the Thunder Canyon Men’s and Women’s Club Championship held Sept. 13 and 14.

Sear won the gross championship with a 4-over-par 146. Rob Jennings was second at 160 and Tyler Dakin was third at 162. Plymell won the net title with a 135, 10 strokes ahead of Tony Bellucci and 11 ahead of Leland Sample. Tsuda won the net title from the Lightning tees, carding a 140. Charlie Cockerill was second at 143 and Mike Dyer was third at 144.

Cheryl Burke won the gross title with a 155, while Denice Tsuda was the net champion at 134.

Shelly Kinnerson was second in net at 139 and Joyce Powell was third at 142.

Orlando Coons was the junior champ with a 78.

• On Sept. 21, Dave Waldron and Larry Easterling, Jeff Gussow and Larry Goodnight, Plymell and Mark Miller, and Frank Sandall and Jake Wiskerchen shot 63s to tie for the top spot in the men’s 4-ball. The format was partner’s better ball.

LeAnne Crowell won the women’s low net with a 68, six shots better than Elaine Easterling and seven ahead of Jane Beckett and Claudia Goodnight.

Collins, Cowee, Lynn, Miller

combine for golf win

DAYTON – Jim Collins, John Cowee, Rankin Lynn and Jeff Miller combined for a 16-under par 132 for a big five-stroke win in the Dayton Valley Palmer Club four-man net cha cha cha tournament played Sept. 13. Leo Casaus, Frank Holzhauer, Kelly Sheehan and John Lund finished second at 137.

Third place went to Jason Clark, Marco DiGiacinto, Joel Domen and Andrew Palmer with 138. Randy Anderson, Ryan Blaver, Jim Crawford and John Heibel finished fourth with 139.

Par was 148 in the cha cha cha variable best ball format.

Lyons tournament comes

to CVGC on Oct. 4

The Help Dave Lyons Golf Tournament is 9 a.m. at Carson Valley Golf Club. The format is a 4-person scramble.

Lyons was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, forcing him to resign as a firefighter. He has three children under the age of 12, so this is a great cause.

The cost is $90, which includes golf, cart, and lunch.

Lacrosse group looking

for new officials

The Northern Nevada Lacrosse Officials Association is looking for members for the coming season.

The group officiates girls and boys high school games in the spring as well as youth lacrosse.

The first meeting is Dec. 18 at the Tamarack Junction. The dues are $30.

Tigersharks fare well

at Autumn Freeze meet

MacKenze Pierce, 6, had a great weekend for the Carson Tigersharks to tie for high point winner in her age group. She won the 50 free and placed second in the 25 back.

Other swimmers who placed in the top 3 of their events were:

• Katarina Klatt, 8, placed second in the 50 free and 100 Free, and fourth in the 50 breast.

• Kennedy Redican, 10, placed second in the 50 breast, third in 500 free, fourth in 100 back, fifth in 200 individual medley, seventh in 100 fly, eighth in 100 I.M. and 12th in 50 free.

• Matteas Klatt, 11, was second in 500 free, seventh in 100 fly, 10th in 100 breast.

• Leandra Blake, 12, was third in the 400 I.M., seventh in 100 breast, 11th in 200 I.M., 14th in 100 fly, 22nd in 100 free.

• Brett Kolb, 14, was first in the 1650 free, second in 200 Back, third in 100 back, fourth in 100 breast and 200 breast, sixth in 200 fly, seventh in 100 free and 200 IM, and eighth in 100 fly.

• Nicole Van Geel 14, was third in the 1650 free, fifth in 200 back, seventh in 50 free, eighth in 100 back, 10th in 200 fly, 11th in 100 fly, 200 I.M. and 200 breast, and 13th in 100 breast.

• Christy Krahn, 15, was third in the 200 breast, 4th in 200 fly, sixth in 100 breast, seventh in 1650 free, eighth in 100 back and 200 I.M., 10th in 50 free, 12th in 200 back and 13th in 200 free.

• Ashley Meyer, 16, was third in the 100 fly, fifth in 200 fly, sixth in 100 back, eighth in 200 back, 10th in 1650 free, 11th in 200 I.M., 14th in 100 free and 200 free, and 15th in 50 free.

• Tallon Rauch, 17, was second in 50 free, 500 free, 1650 free and 200 fly.

Cabela’s hosting Ladies’ Day

on Oct. 4 in Reno

Cabela’s will celebrate the growing number of women enjoying the outdoors with a Ladies’ Day Out from 10 a.m to 2 p.m. The day focuses on apparel that can be worn outdoors.

The first 100 women to check in will get a free gift. There are several classes scheduled that day.
