Kingsbury Grade — State Route 207 — to re-open for Genoa Candy Dance

Kingsbury Grade — State Route 207 — will temporarily re-open to through traffic this weekend for the Genoa Candy Dance. The grade has been closed to through traffic as part of the Nevada Department of Transportation’s Kingsbury Grade Pavement Reconstruction Project.

The roadway will open to through traffic by noon on Friday and close again at approximately 9 p.m. Sunday.

“The closure to through traffic allows us to complete the project in approximately half the time we would otherwise be able to,” NDOT Project Manager Pedro Rodriguez said. “But, in working with both the Tahoe and Carson Valley communities, we felt it was important to open the grade temporarily to allow visitors and locals to access the Genoa Candy Dance.”

Following the temporary opening to traffic for the Genoa Candy Dance, Kingsbury Grade will remain closed to through traffic near the summit to October. During that time, non-permitted through traffic will not be able to travel over the Kingsbury summit area between Lake Tahoe and the Carson Valley. Residences and businesses located on Kingsbury Grade will continue to be accessible by U.S. 50 at Tahoe.

The closure is part of a $15 million project by contractor Q&D Construction to reconstruct pavement to a 13-inch depth, helping prevent continuing pavement deterioration from natural springs below the roadway, and make drainage, safety, curb and gutter, sidewalk, lighting and other improvements on Kingsbury Grade from just east of Daggett Summit to the intersection of U.S. 50 at Stateline.
